The Borough of Mercersburg is located in southwestern Franklin County just 4 miles north of the Mason Dixon line. The borough was incorporated in 1831 and named after General Hugh Mercer, a decorated French and Indian War and Revolutionary War veteran. Mercersburg is the boyhood home to James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States and also home to the Mercersburg Academy. The town has a nationally registered historic district along parts of North and South Main Street along with parts of East and West Seminary Street.
