PUBLIC NOTICE ON-GOING FIRE HYDRANT TESTING

The Mercersburg Borough Public Works Department will be conducting on-going fire hydrant testing throughout the community. This essential maintenance is currently 30% complete and will remain ongoing throughout the next few weeks. This routine testing is essential to ensure that all hydrants are fully operational to protect the residents and properties of Mercersburg.

What to Expect During Testing

  • Discolored Water: During testing in your area, you may temporarily notice brown or discolored water. This is a common occurrence caused by harmless mineral sediment being stirred up in the water mains.
  • What to Do: In the event that you experience brown water, please run your cold water tap for up to ten minutes until the water runs clear.

Please Note: If the discolored water persists after running your tap for ten minutes, please contact the Borough Office immediately to schedule a work order.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we complete this vital safety infrastructure maintenance.

Sincerely,

Matt Moxley

Borough Manager
